Play Synopsis Leave It To Psmith, a comedy of youth, love and misadventure, is a comedy play by Ian Hay and P.G. Wodehouse, based on the latter's 1923 novel of the same title. It premiered in London's West End at the Shaftesbury Theatre on September 29, 1930.    In the play, Freddie Bosham, son of the Earl of Middlewick, wants to marry Phyllis Jackson, but needs to raise money to be able to marry her. He hires Psmith, who is ready to do any job, to come to the family's country house and steal his stepmother's diamond necklace, but they find that others are after the necklace, too.

Character Breakdown: 10 Males, 8 Females (See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leave_It_to_Psmith_(play) for more details)

What and how to prepare for your audition:  All those interested in auditioning should prepare a memorized 1-2 minute monologue at their audition. When you’ve finished presenting your monologue, you will be asked to read a section from the script; a British accent is not required.

When preparing for your audition, keep in mind that actors who connect well with their text, who have a formidable physical and vocal presence, and who make strong choices in their performance are more likely to get a part. Clear pronunciation and a good sense of comedic timing is a plus.

Callbacks:  If callbacks are needed, a date will be scheduled.  Reading/watching the play itself is also advisable, as being familiar with the plot and characters will be useful during the audition and callback process.

The Rehearsal Process:  Rehearsals will occur every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday from 6:00 – 9:30pm. All rehearsals will last three and a half hours and will include any combination of the following: warm-ups, table work, character work, dialect coaching, blocking, and feedback.    Actors will also need to commit to work outside of the daily rehearsal time; this will include memorization of lines, character work, dialect practice, and other research.

All involved with Leave It To Psmith will be required to be at all rehearsals during Tech Week beginning Sunday, August 7, 2022 through Thursday, August 11, 2022.
